According to @douglaslondon.bsky.social, former CIA head of CT for South Asia, the program was far more strategic and ambitious: to drive the U.S. out of Afghanistan and the rest of Central Asia.

I haven’t read this one but it’s a great point and I spend a bit more time in my own book discussing life under cover with a family, telling your kids, the impact on their lives, and relationships.
