One of the greatest of the theater vanguard has passed: Richard Foreman blew my mind apart every time I experienced one of his crazy “plays” at St. Marks Church. I can’t say it better than Ben Brantley: “razzmatazz theatricality and artistic discipline”; as Foreman was known to announce, “Wake Up!”

One of the greatest of the theater vanguard has passed: Richard Foreman blew my mind apart every time I experienced one of his crazy “plays” at St. Marks Church. I can’t say it better than Ben Brantley: “razzmatazz theatricality and artistic discipline”; as Foreman was known to announce, “Wake Up!”
3/4 of Sonic Youth played in NYC Friday night and it was glorious. We miss Kim (who is making great music with her own band) but, dammit, it was good to see Lee, Thurston and Steve generate some joyful noise.
