Learning requires action plus reflection. Some of the most valuable information comes from our bodies, not our minds.

Allow regular time for reflection. Pay attention to your whole body’s reaction to a situation, without becoming obsessed by mental chatter.

Your humility can be a gift alongside your material contribution. And it is likely to improve the quality of the material contribution as well.

Pay attention to what is happening - within and around you. Then, respond. No need to worry about what is right.

A conscious, spontaneous response is better than trying to do what is right, and that is in turn better than imposing morality.

We have two lives, and the second begins when we realize we only have one.

From the grandest arc to the most minute detail, any thing is as it is because the whole is as it is.

Tao cannot be defined, but it is ‘how’ things work. Tao is principle. Creation, the ‘what’, is the process that follows Tao. That’s all.

Attentiveness + flexibility = effectiveness.

The leader can act as warrior (Yang), listen as healer (Yin), or remain still and reflect. Wisdom chooses the correct aspect.

Everything starts with accepting what is real in this moment. Then pay attention for the right timing as opportunity arises.

Do not look for conflict. If it finds you, yield. Do not press against resistance. Respect any opponent. An attacker is off balance and easily thrown.

Prioritize life itself over your narrative of it.

Wise leaders maintain awareness of what is happening—here and now. Without that, clever looks at past and future are distractions.

Self-awareness, reflection and a bit of patience will get you a long way.

If you want to improve yourself, forego techniques. Try silence and reflection, which will gradually show you your true self.

Life has two wings. We usually think of one as good and the other as bad, but without both, Life cannot fly.

Nature cycles between extremes, always changing. Tension, relaxation. Filling, emptying. Wise leaders recognize these cycles and work with them.

We overestimate the need for (re)action. No need to run ahead of the water, scraping a channel downhill. It will find it's own way.

Allow human interactions to evolve naturally, as much as possible. No need to agitate. All behaviour—good, bad, gentle and strong—comes and goes.

You can't copy or hack wisdom's formula, because it has none.

Because the wise only give allegiance to how things happen (Tao), which is indefinable, unaware people can’t figure them out.

Listening and reflection are as important as speaking and action. Frenetic activity muddles our understanding.

Yin, the feminine, is receptive, open. Stillness and silence reveal reality like a reflection on flat water.

Reality is unmoved by our preferences. We can't bribe or force it, but we can better see our place in it and 'surf' it a bit more skillfully.

Nature hides the greatest secrets where they are so obvious that they are overlooked (or actively avoided). What is, is. Wise leaders deal with tough realities; they do not ignore them or declare them invalid.

Know that any characteristic (honesty, strength, compassion, etc) is in continuous, delicate balance with its opposite (dishonest, weakness, cold-heartedness) within you and in all others. This realization, however brief, tends to reduce judgement, including self-judgement.

We cannot know the irreducible principle that underlies the universe's dynamic. But we can recognize more and more often that human thoughts, feelings, and actions (including our own) are part of that dynamic. Interesting insight, calm, and effectiveness tend to accompany this recognition.

Being open is infinitely more valuable than being right. Do you want to be in touch with an egoic trophy or with today's reality?

Being right is not the aim. Judging is not the aim. There is nothing to defend. Facilitate life’s unfolding and your work is done.

The distribution and quality of silence carries as much value as the content of sound.

Pay attention to silences and empty spaces between happenings. They reveal the essential mood and give value to what transpires.

That stubborn, indefinable sense of fear and lack - the one we try to alleviate with cars, food, sex, gadgets, kudos and defensive postures - is none other than the mistaken sense that we move independent of (and isolated from) the rest of nature's dynamic.

When you express yourself (your self) versus projecting your self-image...

When you prioritize growing over looking like the finished article...

When you put service above achievement...

Then you're on the path to fulfillment.

Tao does nothing, yet everything gets done. If you find yourself busy, make time to return to quiet reflection.

This is not an instruction to flow vs swim. It's an invitation to Realize that all we do is float, even when it feels like we're swimming (or sinking).

The movements of water show the importance of timing. Flow, for pushing creates resistance.

Every process has its own timing. Pay attention, and you can time light action to great effect.

Gentle, early leadership interventions work best. Recognise critical moments. As the process matures, interrupt as little as possible.
