I hope Z. Jacobs feels a true sense of pride as a writer. Not just for writing such a great story, but for her way of injecting such a strong sense of hope to a chaotic setting in her story. (I didn't want to say chaotic story because that could be misunderstood.) Well done!!!!

It's beautiful how Maria changes course and decides to help her (and our) ailing planet. She had already made growth as a character, but this ending...WOW, that's what got me. It was smooth and simply felt good to read.

There's also a lot that can be said about Zohar Jacobs authenticity in her story. From the technical aspects to the devastating report of the aftermath. I've read A LOT of scifi and love being surprised. Z. Jacobs gives a one-two punch with the ending that landed perfectly for me.

Charlie is actually the cooler of the two, and faces her own struggle. A whole other story can be written from Charlie's POV. Also, the character of Justin was such a nice, and late, addition. A perfect way to keep the story active and fresh as it battled along the challenges.

First of all, the writing is so tight; the tension from the manmade disaster and the attempt to land on Mars both playing like a duet while you read. I really liked Maria and Charlie's relationship--Zohar doesn't make the protagonist some flawless hero, but instead makes her real and flawed.

I just realized I can now do a full response and don't have to worry about spoilers...just don't click on further comments. Unless you want to hear all about "The Night Shift."
