Never thought an overlooked woman's life from 2,000 years ago would cut through to today, but her struggles and her example deserve to be more widely known. I'm thrilled that more people will find CLODIA's story

Always a treat when a friend sends a pic of the book on an indie shelf! Thanks for showcasing CLODIA @gibsonsbookstore.bsky.social

Five years ago, the idea came to me that one fearless woman from long ago who risked her own name to preserve the rule of law against corruption and self-interest might inspire others to follow her example. Happy publication day, CLODIA OF ROME.

Got a chance to see some of Hearst's art collection last week, including the Roman columns from Türkiye at the pool and some pristine Attic vases that still line his bookshelves.

Very excited to share that, in a time of slashed funding, our Spello Project received funding this year @slu-official.bsky.social for a study season which will allow the team to analyze finds and prepare our 3 (!) scientific publications.

Looking forward to doing some work in Italy this month!

One of my favorite parts of telling Clodia's story was being able to knock smug Cicero off the pedestal he's occupied for 2,000 years.

Six weeks to go until CLODIA OF ROME! Advance praise and pre-order links @wwnorton.com wwnorton.com/books/978132...

Today's morning read is about how politicians 2,000 years ago regularly treated justice with contempt by using their own elections to delay court appearances and then, when that failed, manipulating court calendars to evade trial. #booksky

Man, is this a good one! Atmospheric sanitarium fiction with a mini history of misogyny. Absolutely enthralled by this story.

Looking at art today as a way to recharge, and the poignancy of this piece in St. Louis, "Lamentation," by Käthe Kollwitz, done between 1938-1941, called out for sharing.
