The victim of this was already a massive prospect in position to where if he didn't get too hurt and stayed out of trouble he'd have a fairly high likelihood of making millions in the NFL. Pretty transparent evil move to trick him into signing over his rights shortly after his 18th birthday.
I am so haunted by the Michael Oher thing. It seems like they didn't know in advance that the story would be a best-selling book or movie, they just cooked up this whole scheme so he would attend their alma mater?!

"Let's let the computer program trained on anime porn and fan fiction decide what books we should read" is a weird conservative stance
1) Don't ban books
2) Don't waste educators' time with book bans
3) Don't make decisions about books without reading them
4) Don't fall for OpenAI's interface: ChatGPT is not the kind of thing you can sensibly ask for information

School district uses ChatGPT to help remove library books
Faced with new legislation, Iowa's Mason City Community School District asked ChatGPT if certain books 'contain a description or depiction of a sex act.'

Only a crypto podcaster would think ups drivers only deliver 5 packages an hour, lolol
would kill for a market to short these stupid assholes. How do I make a fortune betting against these dopes? The guys on top may not believe their own bullshit but they have 1000s of cult followers who genuinely believe we’re 6 months from AI robot workers taking over UPS and Netflix writers’ rooms

Hoping all the flippity-floos who took a stab at the Internet Archive are happy with themselves. The #1 "you have a library, and if it's not close you can use their e-catalog" argument is going out the window.
This rather sucks: apparently the company behind Libby/Overdrive (which is the dominant way to access ebooks etc. through your local library) is now in the hands of the vulture capitalists who took down Toys R’Us.

And signs of enshittification are already showing.

Global investment vampires have positioned themselves to suck our libraries dry

It’s crazy to think of how much of harmonica you hear on country songs of the past forty years is one guy in Willie Nelson’s band

Truly amazing how quickly the quality of the google search algorithm has deteriorated over the past two years from the already bad ad driven results
