I'm having difficulty with the idea of Bjork being 60. That can't be right, can it?!

Grand Designs is just people with unlimited money, time, and freedom saying, "Ever since I was a little heir, I've always loved featureless squares."

If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."

There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.

Liverpool cinemas don't seem to be showing Lucile Hadžihalilović's latest, The Ice Tower. I loved her previous two - Evolution (2015) and Earwig (2021) - so that is, to say the least, disappointing. In addition, it's a retelling of a wintry tale; perfect, you'd think, for the time of year? ❄️

No writing done today. V tired after tutorials on both Monday and Tuesday. Hopefully I'll get down to it tomorrow and make some more progress ✍️

Subscribed once more to bfi player - largely to watch Terence Davies' Of Time and the City again for something. But, having cancelled mubi a while back, it's going to be nice to have a dedicated film streaming platform again 🎬

Moon, starring Sam Rockwell in top form, is on film4 this evening (9pm UK time). Directed by @manmademoon.bsky.social, it's up there with my favourite science fiction, and one of my films of the century so far!

What with teaching and also studying, I've reluctantly, by default, had to park activities on The Double Negative (for now). Already feeling wistful, because I've enjoyed writing a few pieces in particular this year. Some recent-ish ones include...

Every time this kind of thing comes round it's because the people saying this are remembering being kids and of course the world seems better when someone else is worrying about taking care of you and you can spend most of your time just riding bikes.
Ah the 1970s.

Stagflation, three day weeks, collapsing infrastructure. Civil War in Northern Ireland. In yer face racism and bigotry everywhere. Bin strikes. Strikes in general. Blackouts. Industrial decline. Wage inequality. Dog crap everywhere. And households spent 25% of their income on food.

First reasonable writing day in a while. On the city as palimpsest, cultural landscape & renewal - whether it takes - and all that good stuff. Finally feel as though I might be writing my way into the PhD ✍️
