We don't stop playing games because we grow old. We grow old because we stop playing games.

Right, because calling someone a dork over their looks or the way they act totally screams “I don’t care about appearances.” Can’t really have it both ways so definitely seems like insulting your appearance bothers you more than you want to lead on

From a guy that looks like he wears whitey tighties

With that said, let's talk about how AI can make the future better for everyone.

As someone that lost their job in the games industry purge, I can say with confidence that many of the jobs lost are not coming back. The industry had become bloated, and the rise of AI in recent years didn't sway employers that were all of a sudden about to rehire thousands of gaming professionals.

Are we outright against any use of AI, dismissing it as lazy or unethical, even if it means better working conditions for developers? Additionally, I think approaching AI in games from the angle that it's taking jobs away from the people that lost them in the past few years is a nonstarter.

Shifting back to ATVI and AI, how much of the current backlash is justified? In the past instance of suspected AI use in CoD, if it truly was lazy GenAI, then the backlash was warranted. Beyond that, where do gamers want to draw the line?

Thinking back to crypto and NFTs in games in 2021, any mention of either were met with immediate backlash with torches and pitchforks. Unfortunately, the potential benefits to customers were also burned at the stake in the process. We must strive to do better this time around.

The other recent video game TV adaptations (Edgerunners, The Last of Us, and Fallout) likely generated a bigger boost since their games are much easier to pick up. However, I could see this as a long play for Riot.

I'd like to see blockchain being used for ownership in an increasingly digital world with an emphasis on implementation and messaging (i.e. less crypto bros to the moon)
There could be a future where games are minted on chain and gamers actually own their digital games. This also addresses the new (and concerning) trend of games being pulled off virtual stores never to be accessible again. This is all dependent on the right message and approach.

Success hinges on implementing the tech in a way that doesn’t alienate gamers at the mention of 'Web 3.0' or 'blockchain.' Gamers no longer want be told that we will 'own nothing and be happy about it'. Systemic changes are needed, and I’m hopeful that w/ the right approach, a solution is out there.

As everything shifts to digital and "ownership" becomes more vague, we're approaching an inflection point where customers have to grapple with not actually ever owning anything (see Steam's new licensing vs owning pop-up). This is where the blockchain can be the revolution it was once hyped to be.
