Thanks for your response! Not sure I've seen Lodi apples since then. They probably don't keep well. IIRC, they made a good pie! I think they made an impression bc I love apples so much, I was happy to see this vanguard of the season!

If the president wants to punish desecration of the flag, should we start with his followers who love to wear Old Glory as garments and underwear, in direct opposition to the already-established US Flag Code?

Wag the dog is a political term for the act of creating a diversion from a damaging issue usually through military force. It stems from the generic use of the term to mean a small and seemingly unimportant entity (the tail) controls a bigger, more important one (the dog). It is usually used by a politician when they are in a scandal, in hopes that people forget about the scandal and focus on the more important issue. The phrase originates in the saying "a dog is smarter than its tail, but if the tail were smarter, then it would wag the dog."[1] The concept has strong intersections with many other aspects of diversionary foreign policy, particularly the rally 'round the flag effect, as wag the dog actions tend to both distract and seek to bolster support through these actions.

The proliferation of nuke-in-the-bag frozen veggies is 1 example. Don't buy 'em. Or buy them, pour contents into a glass casserole dish, add 1 Tbs water & hit "Vegetable, frozen" option on microwave. Cooks 'em automatically. It's what I do. Just as convenient as cooking in a plastic bag. #plastic
