ABC, NBC & CBS dedicated about 16 minutes of airtime last night to the California wildfires without once mentioning climate change.

Since the news failed do it's job, here's a short summary of the role of climate change and wildfire risk:

Kicked off my year in reading with a reread of Fourth Wing in anticipation of Onyx Storm being released later this month...

I love rereading books, particularly in fantasy series, because things hit different when you KNOW what's up. This was a GREAT reread. 💗

Could. Not. Put. This. Down.
Definitely lived up to the expectations set by "Powerless" and I have already pre-ordered Fearless.

This series has sky rocketed to my favourites list this month. 2024 has been a good year for reading for me!

My favourite part of Christmas used to be Christmas Eve, for a number of reasons.

Some time ago, it became Tibb's Eve. Largely because it was the night for friends 💞

What we do together to celebrate has shifted with time, but it remains the thing I look forward to the most 🥰

Time for the annual rewatching of Love Actually, while I write up Christmas cards.

I will not argue with anyone that this is a good movie or that it isn't problematic... but I will also not stop enjoying it 🤷‍♀️😝

This is an interesting story because it really highlights how important it is to not make assumptions when it comes to parasites. We don't find what we don't look for.... this tapeworm is rare, but it is definitely in Canada and it can do some gnarly things to dogs *and humans*. #VetMed

My week so far:
Crying over the Eras Tour being over, enjoying being back at my "home away from home" clinic, being unreasonably emotional over everything Taylor Swift, finding my favourite seasonal ice cream in stock, dropping my speaker on my foot.. and yet you tell me it is only Tuesday?!?

2 weeks in Corner Brook done, I am now in Grand Falls Windsor.

I grew up with a white Christmas being essentially guaranteed, with snow well established in November. So spending the 4 weeks before Christmas *not* on the Avalon fills my white Christmas loving heart. 😅😜

As a traveling relief vet, I have so much appreciation for clinic cats.. especially the ones who literally crawl up my coat to say hello in the morning 🥰

Miss Fanny is light as a feather compared to my beasties, but still a quality cuddler. 😻

Antimicrobial stewardship means, at minimum, doing cytology EVERY time you see dermatitis and only reaching for oral antibiotics when you *know* they are indicated.

Saw an itchy dog today with an area of redness, hair loss, and crusts... and cytology showed nothing but yeast. 🧐

Drove through here yesterday.... frigging 4:18pm sunset, though, means it did not look nearly so lovely when I drove through after 6pm 😅

I do love the drive out when I can manage to arrive before the sun goes to bed, though 😍

The last two weeks have been magical, exhausting, uplifting, and overwhelming. . .

I am back on clinics today, and I was able to just completely reset my head and recharge yesterday despite driving most of the day.

How?
Pausing to play Dungeons & Dragons. The escapism works every time 🥰

The perfect room temperature when chilling on the couch and watching TV is "I need a blanket" degrees Celcius.

Being warm is hellish. I love sweaters, slipper socks, and soft blankets. I always want to be just a little bit cold.

I will not be taking questions at this time.

Earlier this week, I finished this book and I LOVED IT SO MUCH.

My library does not currently have the rest of the series, and 2 other books I had on hold are now available... but the urge to just go buy the rest of the trilogy right now is STRONG 😶

I am willing to die on this hill.

And reading some of the arguments against in the replies only made me more certain of this.

Consuming a piece of written work in whatever way is accessible to you = reading. The end.

Went to see #Wicked tonight, it was delightful 💗

I used to go see movies on the big screen so often, I miss it sometimes. Things really do hit different in the theatre.

All day, every time I walked down the hall I spyed Phil napping on the bed.

So it gave me a bit of a jump scare when I turned on the lights in the bathroom and BAM! There he was on the bath mat. 😅

Cats. Sneaky like ninjas.

What are your favourite album releases this year?

A 🧵 , top 12 in no particular order selected just now and list might be different if you ask me again in a week 😅

Very useful information here 👇
A brief thread on alt-text.

Alt text is descriptive text that conveys the meaning of an image. It's designed to make visual content accessible to people with vision disabilities. When a person uses assistive technology such as a screen reader, the screen reader will read the onscreen text aloud 1/7

I grew up in Ottawa, and mostly I lived downtown. I have always loved the Parliament buildings for their architecture and history... I never thought becoming a veterinarian would lead to going inside them for meetings.

Today, I was inside the Senate of Canada building, and it was kinda cool 🤩

Got an early Christmad present: a super soft fleece snood!

This is going to be very much enjoyed when I go back to Labrador in January ❄️

Very impressed with this piece on the cost of vet care - a well balanced job showing how this is a very nuanced issue that has impacts on both sides.

www.cbc.ca/player/play/...
Why is it so expensive to take your pet to a vet?
More than half of Canadian households have at least one dog or cat. As the cost of living continues to rise, it's a reality that doesn't come cheap, especially with prices on the rise at vet clinics. Our Alicia Asquith spent time digging into what's behind the increase, and has some tips on how you can keep your furry loved one healthy without breaking the bank.

I was recently interviewed as part of a piece in the @theglobeandmail.com about mental health and the challenges we face in the Veterinary Profession... turns out it was published today! Happy to see the discussion around this being more open.

More pets and rising costs have created a perfect storm for veterinarians’ mental health
Mental health is becoming a priority for an industry that is grappling with an acute work-force shortage and rising costs that threaten to make the problem worse

After a whirlwind of several days of travel, fun, concert, travel, meetings, celebrations, I don't even know what day it is...

....enjoying some quiet stillness with family this evening 🥰

(Which means I finally had some time to poke around blue sky... 😅)
