obviously pop culture tie-ins are the most egregious example, but i feel like you see this all over magic: the gathering as time goes on. the original artist here misinterpreted "lemure" as "lemur," but why did this ever need to be corrected? the original art is incredible

and i can't be convinced this isn't hasbro and/or disney putting their thumb on the scales, because the further you get from the bankable chase rares, the more interesting it gets. i think these cards all look awesome in their own way

i don't want to put down the people who are working on magic: the gathering these days, but i think it's a microcosm of this whole thing. i think a lot about how mark tedin and drew tucker worked on the same game at the same time. both great artists with styles that aren't really anything alike

we've been doing classicvania for like 3 or 4 years and rachel only just now pointed out that if you play castlevania chronicles on arrange mode dracula has two faces and three hands. looks like they overlaid his new sprite on top of his old one and messed it up?

we're looking at the classicvania submissions and the two most common deathless runs are CV1 and Rondo of Blood, which should surprise no one because that's how it is every year. but guess what the third most popular one is?

we accidentally left a score field in the classicvania portal (it'll be used for some shmup stuff that i might never get around to doing) and i like seeing how the mods react when i put totally arbitrary numbers in the field

(suicide talk, be careful) i'd coincidentally been walking the knife edge between two SH2 endings because of how i use healing items in games. getting the other ending this morning was as simple as examining a couple key items several times each. this is from before i saw it. another columbo moment
