You can't subpoena something that never officially happened.

To be clear, this prospect never speaks to me, they speak to designers, and push back on doing the WHOLE project well. But this is what it comes down to. 🤷‍♀️

My favorite part of this story is that there were like 20 people in that chat, and NONE of them noticed the journalist that whole time. 😎

The other issue I've run into is equivalent value. It seems to work fine if you have a product or service with 1) set price and scope, 2) short turnaround; and less fine for custom work that may run into scope creep. Which is a big chunk of what I do. So I approach with caution. 😁

That usually seems to be why people propose barter: lack of cash flow. But that means that if push comes to shove, the project that isn't paying the bills understandably gets sidelined. It really becomes a problem when you're talking about thousands of dollars' worth of services!
