Ethics in tech & finance: AI ethics, ESG, CSR, sustainability. Expert, consultant, speaker, lecturer, author. Based in Zurich, Switzerland.

Ideal for people who appreciate both humor and ethical dilemmas, and can handle an occasional existential crisis.
Wären alle Urheber:innen fair entschädigt worden, gäbe es generative KI in ihrer heutigen Form nicht. Die fossile Wirtschaft externalisiert die Kosten für CO2. Generative KI die für unsere Kreativität.

Meine Aussage im Referat zu "KI & Nachhaltigkeit" im Rahmen der Agenda 2030 in Bern vorgestern.

Kudos to the Oxford Dictionary of English for reading AI
1. as Amnesty International
2. as artificial insemination,
3. and only then as ... AI.

And this is my post number 3 on LLM training and human learning: I address the criticism that my position is "against the free exchange on knowledge", and the danger of "reductionism" by equating #machinelearning with human learning. #AIethics

And this was my follow-up post on #AI and #copyright on LinkedIn:
#LLMs don't make "knowledge" and "ideas" accessible. They are designed to obfuscate sources and refuse attribution. Stop romanticizing this theft as if it came from Robin Hood!

For those who don't follow me on LinkedIn:
My thoughts on my posthumous fame as an academic, now that #Meta has stolen all my work from #LibGen. I seem to have hit a nerve. And some commentators still claim that this is about "democratization of knowledge" 🤦‍♀️ Link in comments.

The founder of Suno AI said: “It’s not really enjoyable to make music now…it takes a lot of time, it takes a lot of practice, you have to get really good at an instrument ...I think the majority of people don’t enjoy the majority of time they spend making music.” Here is my answer: joyful suffering!

This is so true! I quit academia in 2014 - out of frustration.
Look how the citations of my articles have developed since. I call this posthumous success 😈🧟‍♀️

“AGI will have to navigate not just the physical but also the social world. This means that the views of tech experts who are notorious for misunderstanding the complexity of social situations should receive no special credence” Thanks, @randomwalker.bsky.social #AIsnakeOil.

Yesterday I played saxophone for the first time in more than 5 years. 🎷
Apologies for the crooked tones! 😊
I need to practice again 💪 💨👄

Listen to that! The CEO of Replika says: "companion bots are potentially an existential threat to humanity. And yes, I help create them, haha... But hey, every tech is a double-edged sword." If one edge is an existential threat to humanity, what does the other edge look like to make it worthwhile? ➡️

Mira Murati: "we're about to see immense potential with abundance of intelligence, energy, and even meaning"
Abundance of energy and meaning! The latter is missing from this video. And of course she has to preach that energy is abundant. Because their tech depends on it. It's like a cult.

Oh, hat die Stadt Zürich heimlich ein DOGE-Ministerium eingesetzt?

Das nenne ich mal am richtigen Ort gespart 🤪

Wiley invited me to discuss how generative AI shakes up academic publishing. Here is one of my favorite bits on the role of values and the importance of defining where human judgment is indispensable.

Susie Alegre on how freedom of thought and freedom of expression relate, in "Freedom to Think: Protecting a Fundamental Human Right in the Digital Age", p. 72

A great read! Highly recommended.
