Composer Osvaldo Golijov, librettist David Henry Hwang, and a brilliant cast and creative team designed a production, whose visuals, music/ soundscape, and movement i found captivating. In this photo, percussive gunfire turns into the percussive rhythms of flamenco. Stunning.

I was fortunate to be able to teach with Donel for my undergraduate class on “Vulnerability.” See his powerful and moving show!

“Drawing from a specific memory of signing over his late father’s autonomy with an ‘X’ on an official Durable Power of Attorney document, Williams puts forth his own abstracted iterations of marks used to violently erase Black identity throughout history.”

I’ve been devastated by the news. The book project, “The Art of Vulnerability: Sexual and Racial Violence, Disability, and Asian/American Performance”, was to be a career capstone. Now my dreams seem infinitely delayed, given my disability issues.

I urge you to do everything within your power to fight back against the President’s agenda and restore funding to the NEH and to the grant recipients who have rightfully earned and were guaranteed support for our work. Please use this link to urge your congresspeople to save the NEH: p2a.co/DdtlGIT

In my own case, the defunding means that my research will, at best, be delayed for years. At worst, I may have to abandon this project. For a scholar, time off from teaching and administration is the only real way we can advance our research.

This book is the culmination of my life's work; with the rising anti-Asian violence in America and continuing violence against women’s and LGBTQ+ rights and bodies, it is more important than ever. The termination of my grant, and so many others, is a despicable attack on freedom of speech.

I know that people in ASTR and ATHE are trying to coalesce around these issues. I’m hoping that other professional organizations will follow suit.

Please take a moment to support the NEH; the link below will allow you to contact Congress and send a message with one click. And of course, if anyone has ideas about mobilizing, contacting the media, etc., please let me know.

Ending Radical and Wasteful Government DEI Programs and Preferencing, and Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government. Devastated and outraged!
