8. Shutter Island
This movie is a master class in psychological horror, at least the kind I particularly enjoy.

7. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
I'm a sucker for supernatural/scifish romances, and ESOTSM presents this with such passion and believability in how the removal memories can lead to tragedy but also sometimes to the same outcomes.

6. Tár
Tár is an absolutely phenomenal drama and Cate Blanchett has one of the best acting performances as Lydia Tár that I've ever seen in a movie.

5. Gremlins 2
I love the original Gremlins, but Gremlins 2 has the allure of a sequel not taking the original seriously. It ends up with more whimsy as a result.

4/4.5.
Why yes I'm cheating and putting both The Neverending Story and The Dark Crystal here. Both extremely influential films of my childhood, ones that I still admire for the artistry behind them. Also I need to make a skeksis sona already.

3. Climax (2018)
Gaspar Noe never fails to offer up a feast for the eyes, but I adore Climax in particular. It's less a movie sometimes and more a visual experience, and I mean that in the most complimentary way possible.

2. Alien (1979)
I've never been a big horror movie fan, besides more art horror/light psychological flicks, but Alien is...an anomaly. The first time I watched it I was extremely immersed in that world, and I love every subsequent film, even the bad ones.

1. Suspiria (1977)
This film was one of my first dips into giallo films/definitely the most influential.
