It gets even worse with like. "Building housing won't lower housing cost." types. Because like, what is your proposed solution. Even if you crater the prices by force, there's still more people who want homes in the place than there are homes.

Straight up had this happen with someone the other day. They were complaining that the housing first program was wasteful and inefficient because 15 million was "only" housing 1,200 per year. That's 12,500 per year! Barely over a thousand dollars in month. And yet people vibe math.

Similarly this means that they don't understand human concepts of fraud or deception. The concept of knowing one thing and saying something else is entirely foreign.

Fun! I had a bugaboo recently on some sort of insectoids that use pheromones to convey information sorta like ants. The thing being, this makes it impossible to lie! If an accountant realizes a shortage, they can't put out a "supply normal" signal. They are "forced" to say shortage so the hive works

Something something. Without endings there can be no beginnings? That's what I got from it, you can kill death/entropy or let it remain in the universe. Killing or not killing the princess is thus a philosophical position. Is suffering necessary?

I'm always torn in moments like that. Yes gunfights and heists are cool, I love when they happen. But quiet stories are cool too! The mundanity of life is beautiful, and we should not try to escape it at every turn. It's a good thing that there's enough stories for both styles.

This fails because the changes we see line up with a spherical world. Differing hemispheres and so on.

Last I heard the explanation they use was something like. "Everyone sees something different when they look at the sky depending on their location. So it's normal." (I.e. I look up and see something slightly different than you who is say 100 meters away.)

Yeah, isn't that an MBS vanity project? I like dense living as much as anyone else. But like, Kowloon happened because for all its flaws people wanted to live there. The amount of people who want to move to the desert is more constrained.

For all its faults I like how shadowrun by default starts you at Hypercompetent in a few fields. It really helps the heist feel of getting every participant to their specialty.

This way Trump can claim to do something about affordability, without actually tackling housing costs. Which would alienate. Himself as a large real estate holder and other people he cares about.

(Sidebar, cannot stomach how stupid the phrase alienate himself is. But that's the world we live in.)

I can't rationalize it as anything other than an attempt to cover a housing shortage/runaway real estate prices. "If we lower up-front costs now, we can get people in houses. Even if they pay more for them."

You're so good at writing. I love this, perfectly comedic.

I won't let you get away with this is such a funny running gag. I feel a compulsion to collect all the times it has happened.

More people should read/write stories about powerful people struggling to do things. It should be very obvious to most authors that the ability to destroy lots of things isn't productive! Being strong doesn't mean you don't need to negotiate it just improves your position.

I really liked it in rogue trader how you just vacuum up everything at the end of the map. Made me picture sending out guardsman to sweep the battlefield afterwards.
