I think every final fantasy Ive played has given me more trouble than P5, and that was the first SMT game I beat (I only played the first dungeon or two of P4 prior). So maybe we are just built different.

Yeah I dunno. Maybe it gets there after I stopped, but I remember being sad that it seemed like there was a rich layer of the game that was pointless to think about because I could just parry everything, take 0 damage, and win with no gear or plan. I never felt that with Mario RPGs.

Difficulty is always going to be a personal thing. But on my first playthrough, with no grinding, I was clearing every dungeon up to the mandatory checkpoint in a single attempt. I would consider that very easy.

Oh I was making my way through the snowy mountain area. Talking with a friend they told me youre supposed to go back to it after breaking the damage cap.

Aint nothin wrong with it being easy or people liking it that way. Lots of people probably have little to no familiarity with the genre which makes it harder and more interesting. And a lot of people just like easy games.

To be fair I didnt finish it, so maybe it gets hard later? I was dealing 9999 damage with parries and just skipping turns to kill things faster though. And that didnt keep me engaged enough to want to keep going.

the response to e33 and persona 5 make me think the most important thing for the western audience to enjoy is a jrpg is a fancy ui, a camera that swooshes between characters on their turns, and it being really easy.

Watched this a few weeks ago on your recommendation and really enjoyed it! The final fight sequence is such a great set piece. They really used every piece of the environment, which is one of the best parts of HK choreography from that era.

Once you figure out the audio queue you will parry 100% of the time and stop taking damage, kill all the enemies just through parrying, and no longer have to think about the combat at all so it's kind of a lose/lose situation imo.

You know I didn't see anyone talking about this game when it came out but I really enjoyed it. Scratched the Assassin's Creed itch I had at the time and I think did it better than any recent AC I can think of.
