I mean if we’ve got a true “blue wave” and the Texas Repubs spread themselves too thin in their gerrymandering attempts, it’s possible *Texas* will go blue.

Of course, it *should* be indexed to start with! However, sometimes developers miss things, or the data ends up being used in ways the developer didn't foresee. Then, things run in production fine until the data size crosses a critical threshold, at which point it rather suddenly becomes too slow.

This happens much more quickly if your phonebook is for Manhattan, KS than it is if your phonebook is for Manhattan, NY.

Thus, an unindexed database may be fine on a small amount of data as full table scans are still quick in computer terms. But once it gets big enough, you need to index it.

If anyone is interested, the analogy is that a phonebook is indexed by last name. If you know their last name, you can quickly find it.

But if you want to search by *first* name, or address, you need to do a "full table scan" in database terms -- look at every page in the book.

Having the Republicans remove the filibuster from budget votes and then vote to reopen the government themselves with no Democratic support seemed pretty doable and would’ve been a win in my book. Trump was calling for it, so seemed doable. Then Republicans would fully own the ACA mess they made.

Vote to replace leadership, or you are either complicit or feckless in your fight.

Well, things other than “the most important thing is that I be in office.”

Just absolutely fuck you, you feckless traitor!

As a long-time startup founder, I can't say I never gamble, obviously.

But I do say that I don't knowingly bet when I know the odds are against me.

I have tried and failed to teach it for decades. Perhaps an early training would help but it really seems like a knack to me.

I have to admit I paused reading your sentence and spent several seconds wondering what the new “wireless bra” tech did. Presumably using Bluetooth?

Here’s fucking hoping.

Was commenting to my adult daughter the other day about how the last obviously great pol they had was Obama, who went from community activist to Senator to President basically overnight. That’s evidence they don’t have a system to develop talent.
