But to even acknowledge any nuance is anathema to the liberal, who in their heart of hearts thinks they can just math their way to morality. In their striving for the morally pure path, they are ineffective and people die.

Yeah Stalin was a paranoid murdering fuck for the most part, but it's important to understand all the facets, including the rapid industrialization. That doesn't mean we have to turn to murder and terror ourselves. We can take the good and leave the bad. That's what it's all about.
