I totally get the ipod nostalgia though, and I do personally long for a clickwheel rather than a touchscreen...

A lot of people are recommending modded iPods, but the cost has risen pretty high since iPod collecting is a bit of a trend rn. For a similar price point, you can get a new digital audio player that will probably sound better and still be under warranty. Fiio and Hiby are good brands to check out :)
