Power can also be seen as JESSE JAMES over at the Roxy. The number of versions of BEAU GESTE (Neptune) served as the punchline for many a Peanuts comic strips for which I never got the joke. And, of course, there's Mickey Rooney in ANDY HARDY GETS SPRING FEVER (Arabian). 3/3

… which offers audiences a much needed Jimmy Stewart counterpoint. Myrna Loy can also be found just down the street at the Coliseum in THE RAINS CAME, while her co-star Tyrone Power is up the street at the 5th Ave for DAY-TIME WIFE. 2/

Finally, it's the 40s, so there's a Mickey Rooney flick in release, STRIKE UP THE BAND, and it's got Judy Garland, too. 4/4

… but if I'm going to see a film in the U-District, it's THE SEA HAWK (Egyptian). Skipping LOST HORIZON for supporting feature THE AWFUL TRUTH (Embassy). The costuming in PRIDE AND PREJUDICE (Granada) is historically all wrong but otherwise enjoyable. 3/

There's a better known William Wyler film cross town, THE LETTER (Orpheum). You can get more Bette Davis in ALL THIS AND HEAVEN [TOO] (Arabian, Granda). Dueling Tyrone Power flicks, THE MARK OF ZORRO (Blue Mouse) and BRIGHAM YOUNG (Neptune)… 2/

Vincent Price's HOUSE OF WAX (Bay) in 3-D!—There! THE BOYS FROM BRAZIL (UA 150)… maybe. Finally, it's not a double-feature, but the Music Box showing DAYS OF HEAVEN and DUCK DODGERS at the same time… *chef's kiss* 3/3

Two very different war movies at the Neptune: BRIDGE OVER THE RIVER KWAI + THE MOUSE THAT ROARED. Hot take, Ann-Margaret should have been nominated for an Oscar for MAGIC (UA 70). Even as a teenager I found Ralph Bakshi's THE LORD OF THE RINGS (Guild 45th) disappointing 2/

Movies of the era I do remember (not fondly): OH GOD! YOU DEVIL, MISSING IN ACTION, and BMX BANDITS.

If I was going to the movies today, it would be AMADEUS (Guild 45th), THE TERMINATOR (Coliseum), and REPO MAN (Crest). 3/3

I have no memory of GARBO TALKS ever even existing. Nor was I aware of Diane Keaton's THE LITTLE DRUMMER GIRL, and I am a John Le Carre fan. Do people remember or still seek out THE GODS MUST BE CRAZY (Ridgemont)? Same question for PLACES IN THE HEART, for which Sally Field won her second Oscar. 2/

I'm guessing Hitchcock's DIAL M FOR MURDER (Crest) is not in 3D. For once I won't talk about how much I love REAR WINDOW (Orpheum). 4/4

It's not good, but I have fond memories of watching DEMETRIUS AND THE GLADIATORS (Egyptian) on afternoon TV. Sentimental favorites SABRINA, SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS, MAGNIFICENT OBSESSION, and 3 COINS IN A FOUNTAIN. 3/

Another great noir plays the eastside, NAKED ALIBI (Bel-Vue). I've seen a lot of film noir, not sure I've seen THE HUMAN JUNGLE (Coliseum) though. The OG copaganda franchise, Jack Webb's DRAGNET, screens the Neptune. 2/

Great double bill at the Rainier: PSYCHO, still going strong over a year after release, playing with HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL. TOWN WITHOUT PITY (Blue Mouse) recommended for mature adults while THE NUDIST STORY (Guild 45th) is 21+. Love that Disney's THE PARENT TRAP is playing Broadway. 4/4

Very odd triple-bill at the Colonial: I assume CIMARRON is the Anthony Mann 1960 version; the only BLACK FURY I know is the 1935 Michael Curtiz one starring Paul Muni, so maybe it's being paired with the 1931 CIMARRON ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Regardless, the bill also includes GIDGET GOES HAWAIIAN. 3/

You can also find THE DEVIL AT 4 O'CLOCK (5th Ave)—it's companion feature SPEEDWAY does indeed have "spills & thrills". 2/

Speaking of musicals, the Roosevelt has Universal's 1939 version of THE MIKADO paired with RKO's THE DEVIL AND DANIEL WEBSTER, again, another odd pairing. 3/3

I'm not sure who is more frightening in SUDDEN FEAR (Egyptian), Joan Crawford or Jack Palance. I don't often think of Dennis O'Keefe as song-and-dance man, but here he is in "MGM's Champion Musical" EVERYTHING I HAVE IS YOURS (Liberty). 2/

Which drive-in programme do I hit tonight: THE TIME TRAVELERS + THE MYSTERIANS (Midway, Sno-King) or A HARD DAY'S NIGHT + DR. NO (Kenmore)? 3/3
