Even if someone was connected to a gang, the government can’t put them in prison without a full criminal trial. The fact that the prison is in another country doesn’t erase the right of due process. These aren’t normal deportations, it’s imprisonment on foreign soil at the request of the USA.

They’re still pretty big in NYC, although the shelves are all half empty and stores severely understaffed. Still some of the best beer deals around.

He thinks the path to victory is Bill Clinton’s triangulation strategy

(despite today’s political scenario being entirely different from the early 90s)

Stocks are still down compared to before “Liberation Day.” They’ve recovered most but not all of their losses in yesterday’s rally.

Campaigning for Harris all over the swing states.

Unless the entire voting public has a massive shift in their preferences and attitudes toward leadership, I think he’s going to disappear on the debate stage. He’s too nice and deferential.

Unfortunately this is one of the areas where he is acting within his authority. Congress, perhaps naively, has over past century delegated broad and permanent authority to the President to adjust tariffs unilaterally for a wide variety of reasons.

And on DEI there is no mandatory legal framework other than general anti-discrimination law, nor are Dems asking for anything beyond that.

And on asylum it’s already illegal to cross the border without inspection, and no one in the party is suggesting to legalize that.

Be more likeable, persuasive, authoritative and presidential. Unfortunately for the swing / low propensity voters I think it all comes down to vibes, policy is secondary.

If it were a real Trump tweet it would have been found on Internet Archive. It’s not. I’m sorry, as much as I wish it were real, it’s not.

His Twitter timeline goes back to at least 2011. I ran this search just now:

He’s a self-loathing sycophant who voluntarily tied himself to Trump, despite clearly hating him and what he stands for. It’s embarrassing and pathetic, but no less evil, IMO.

From what I can tell searching online, he talked about AI risk and colonizing Mars. Not necessarily the case that he said anything about EA here, despite it being an EA event.

Usually with a religious schism both sides claim to represent the thing, though. It’s not at all clear if Musk has ever represented himself as EA.

"Worth reading" is hardly a ringing endorsement, and "close match" leaves room for him to maybe endorse MacAskill's description of longtermism / focus on saving humanity from possible extinction etc. while disagreeing with every single one of the policy prescriptions in the book
February 26, 2025 at 4:38 AM
Has Musk ever said the words "effective altruism" or "EA"?
