While his owner is still prancing around the world (third week away from home yuppieeee), baby Marzi stopped being a baby at his first birthday today. Still hasn’t yet decided whether he wants to be the most elegant & handsome creature in the world or the gremlinest of gremlins so he is both 🖤

I’m back to the Old World but I’m still dreaming about U.S. Highway 40 run or Fallout-inspired trip around Northern California. Once I got a taste, I feel obsessed. I want more of roads rolling into horizon, and I definitely look forward to getting more of those.

…it would have been a crime not to zoom to the Grand Canyon. Taking a bus felt like a welcome change from driving.

After Death Valley, we entered Nevada, ditched the car and stayed in Las Vegas for three days. Technically, the roadtrip was over, buuuut…

Day five. Death Valley.

Roy’s Motel and Café. Top vibes, this trip wouldn’t be complete without this place out of time.

Day four. Joshua Tree National Park.

Same day - from snowy mountains to green pastures to dusty desert.
April 1, 2025 at 5:43 AM
Day three. Sequoia National Park. No photo can give you the same shivers you experience once you see one of those mammoth trees personally.

From one mountain motel to another. California is in bloom and devastatingly pretty.

Day two. Yosemite Valley. The second you exit Wawona Tunnel, you are mesmerized by the titans of rock and water. Also, mountain roads are fun when you are driving next to the abyss.
April 1, 2025 at 5:39 AM
Day one. Muir Beach (didn’t manage to get into the Muir Woods - unlike other national parks, it needed a lot of passes and reservations we didn’t take care about in advance) and crossing the California valley all the way to Sierra Nevada.

I was aiming for a medium SUV. Turns out me and US have very different ideas about what “medium SUV” is. This was our carriage for the trip - literally the only red metallic in the looooong line of rental cars 🥹

Nighttime.

Before it all, there was Frisco - The Experience by itself, like any large city.

Five days. Four national parks. From snow to heat, from lush valleys to salty deserts. One state. My first US roadtrip is over, and looking back at photos and videos I hardly believe it did in fact happen. A thread of impressions from the Cali roadtrip 🧵

UGH.

Let’s see if the flight back to the old world has WiFi. Anyway, not cherishing the immediate future (10 hours to be precise) but happy to move closer to my island.

Last five days in a nutshell (I have a really cute video but Bluesky doesn’t want no moving pictures)

Just so it is immortalized here: the absolute highlight of the Expo was this game by DaChu Studio with a very furry controller.

#GDC2025 is truly over and it was A-mazing! Lots of great lectures, new exciting people and great impressions. Still, after a week of intense socializing, this notebook speaks to me on a personal level 😂
Time to hit the road.

Exciting, scary, exhilarating. Being a GDC speaker is a fever dream I never thought I wanted and needed. Immensely grateful for this opportunity and also happy it’s over cause now I will need about half a year to recuperate from my public speaking anxiety #GDC2025 #OwlcatGames

Mimosa for breakfast, frozen ocean for lunch and cream ale for late dinner - and I’m finally in San Francisco. Coffee and alcohol are my MVPs and carried me through the 25 hour trip.
