My Aunt, a Sister of Charity, gave me a whistle when I began working in NYC in the 80’s. She knew I would be on the subways & commuting by myself. I never did have to use it then. I wear it now in case of ICE, but also to honor my Aunt. The Sisters of Charity are social justice warriors to this day
