making a con friend and going home and looking up con pics all excited and discovering that this con friend is actually the con owner going incognito because they got very publically caught being a nazi but still wanna profit was not what i had on my first con bingo card but unforgettable regardless

heavy on the "we spent money on travel a room and passes just to find out there was soooo much drama" i was hoping the first pictures of me at a con werent in like, found footage clips of "look at all the nazis in this building right now"

This is a powerful message from a first-time congoer who only discovered why GSFTW was weird after going. I think it makes a good point: everyone wants to assume goodwill in fandom. Unfortunately, bad actors make us have to do some due diligence before joining anything.
