I also enjoyed The Professor and the Madman, which is a biography of the creator of the Oxford English Dictionary and the institutionalized man who helped define many, MANY words.

I loved Riley Sager's mysteries The House Across the Lake and the delightfully gothic The Only One Left. They're not cozy mysteries, but really great. I appreciated All the Colors of the Dark for the serial killer mystery but mostly for the way it followed people throughout their lives.
