I love good food, the creativity of the human imagination, and pretty things.
Saturday. Very chilly and frosty start to the day. A cup of hot coffee in the hands - as well as a good book - is the only proper response.

Saturday. A sunny but cold start to the day. Countering with a hot beverage and a captivating story.

Saturday. Getting caffeinated before the rain sets in for the day.

Countering the cold rain outside with warm carbs inside (inside being both the apartment and - very soon, topped with butter - my stomach.)

FINALLY getting to see what the cool kids were excited about last year. 🙌😍

*slow clap*

Well played, Sparking City. The twists and turns of the streets foreshadowed those I ended up wandering down (and around) in often fruitless quests to make headway of several sections of the puzzle. You warned me, it was right there in front of my eyes, but I thought I knew better!

Not gonna lie: kind of felt like Rocky running up the steps of the art museum at this point.

It doesn’t look like much to do but completing those trees in the bottom left took me a few days. I just couldn’t seem to find the pieces for what appeared to be obvious spots.
January 1, 2026 at 8:10 PM
And VOILA. Assumptions have been proved correct: the second park WAS at the bottom of the puzzle, and the road DID connect to the park in the middle. And once that was sorted, the buildings seemed to come together relatively quickly.
January 1, 2026 at 8:10 PM
FINALLY. And I see now why I wasn’t really making much progress on that park: the right-hand side is the left edge of the puzzle, so there aren’t any other pieces there besides the edges.
January 1, 2026 at 8:10 PM
Oh my god, those parks are ruining whatever satisfaction I’m experiencing with the skyline and sky. Why can’t I get even one or two pieces in there?? Argh, I tell you. ARGH.
January 1, 2026 at 8:10 PM
Those parks are beginning to get on my nerves.
January 1, 2026 at 8:10 PM
The road/tree pieces kept accumulating and I kept not being able to make any headway on them, so off they went to the side of the board.

Honestly, it was getting stressful to look at and was distracting me from areas I could make headway on, like the background.
January 1, 2026 at 8:10 PM
After a good start on the parks I found myself stymied and not progressing as fast as I would have thought on either. I also kept adding more of the brown/white pieces thinking I’d be able to start fitting more of those together.

All I managed was to clutter up the board.
January 1, 2026 at 8:10 PM
Off to a decent start on the parks but while I did pull out some of the brown/white pieces (clearly the roads) I know they wind through the puzzle as a whole so I’m wasn't too focused on building those out as of yet.

And we’re off! Gotta say, loving that pink sweater/jacket combo. Looks fuzzy and cozy!
January 1, 2026 at 8:10 PM
Initially I wasn’t sure where I was going to start. I was drawn to the trees but soon talked myself out of that as I pulled green piece after green piece out of the box.

I opted for the figures against plain, white backgrounds: distinct and, more importantly, relatively few in number.

December’s selection: “Sparkling City”, Jay Laforme

Lookability Score: 10/10
Swear Score: 9/10

Isn’t this just a delightful scene! I just love those buildings in the neighbourhood (brick and stonework is highly underrated, if you ask me).

New Year's Eve. Fog horns heralded the last day of 2025. Walking down to the cafe was a bit like strolling the back streets of Jack the Ripper's London.

Like 2025 needed more drama.

Saturday. Temps hovering around 0 degrees so time to bust out the fuzzy winter boots 😄. Naturally, I passed several folks out in shorts and light jackets. Vancouver contains multitudes.

Friends don't let friends eat boxed stuffing at Christmas. We'll, not more than once, at any rate (that's all it took, years ago, when I first had Christmas lunch with them).

About to head out the door, along with cookies and lemon ice cream.

Needless to say, the stretchy pants are on.

Happy Holidays/Carb Day to all!
December 25, 2025 at 4:00 PM
So now I'm in my schlubby clothes, tea steeping, and looking forward to a hour or so of swearing at a puzzle while drying out some bread ahead of making stuffing for Christmas lunch.

Starting Friday morning like a proper colonist. 😆

Saturday. A mild and, in a shocking twist, non-rainy start to the day. Looking forward to enjoying this new world of nothing wet falling from the sky (while it lasts).
