If you like biographies with a journalistic tone that leave the judging to the reader, do NOT read Ron Chernow's Mark Twain. I will finish it -- eventually -- but I won't appreciate being subjected to Chernow's incessant judgment.

Still working on Jean Grae's In My Remaining Years. Loving the crazy stories that only Jean can tell.

I just recommended these two today to someone with a long flight in their future.

Christmas is coming up!
These sales are great times to stock up.

Thanks to Andreas Burkhalter, Linda Richards, and Kristin Abrahams for making the David Van Essen Symposium happen.

I kept count of how often the FVE wiring diagram and Glasser stained glass brain figures showed up. I counted 6 for FVE, 4 for Glasser.

Frank Conniff's Action Packed Apartment: Ignoring "early" in the Pink Floyd remark, I concede later Genesis is less prog, but dispute the cut-off. Trick of the Tail and Wind and Wuthering are both clearly prog -- and great -- without Peter Gabriel.

Dexter: Resurrection

I love these guys, too.
I've missed Masuka's inappropriate remarks.
This was from episode 3, but the real fun so far is in episode 4.

I usually don't hold grudges, but I'm still mad at the Flyover Comedy Festival organizers for scheduling Henry Phillips' performance at the same time as Patton Oswalt / Tig Notaro on 11/15/2024.

Here is the t-shirt I wore to Greg Warren's show last night in Columbia, MO. (He's well worth a road trip.) That's right: I missed game 6 of the Blues playoffs to see Greg. I didn't know they'd play that night when I bought the tickets.

This video explains the shirt:

Not sure why the April 2025 TheOnion print edition showed up in my mailbox on 5/1, but better late than never!

St. Louis Blues legends Chris Pronger and Charles Glenn at Thursday 4/24/2025 St. Louis Blues home playoff game.

Chris Pronger's retired jersey (#44) hangs from the rafters. Charles Glenn sang the national anthem for many years.

The comments are worth reading.

Finally got a chance to see Wheel of Time season 3 finale:
* Awesome!
* Still want to smack Leandrin, but now want to smack Elaida even more. (Love you Shohreh, hate you Elaida.)
* We need a season 4, because I can't wait to see what Nynaeve does next.

I wish all journals had this kind of cite feature -- can just copy the top text or export to the listed output formats.

Siuan demonstrates the skillful way to tell Elaida to fuck off: "Is there anything else? The Amyrlin's day is a full one."

Have I mentioned AI's signal-to-noise problem lately? I googled the top five most popular songs on Beck's Guero album. The resulting song titles are not on that album. (Cold Brains, at least, is on his Mutations album.) People have a signal-to-noise problem, too. Worse in some more than others.

I'm reading several books right now, but I made room for Jean Grae's new book. Don't doubt any of these testimonials.

Can't agree enough that life is too short for petty ass bullshit.

Peter O'Toole was born in Yorkshire, England, but considered himself an Irishman. Here is the excerpt from his Wikipedia page that talks about this.
