I welcome the withdrawal of the motion to rename Herzog Park in Dublin. I hope the concept is buried for good as a misguided move that Dublin’s Jewish community regard as an assault. Us non-Jews have a duty of care to the community, as we all do to other minorities.

I hope Dublin City Councillors, including @greenparty_ie Cllrs, vote NO to the misguided proposal to rename Herzog Park in Rathgar. He is no hero of mine, but as the most historically prominent member of Dublin’s Jewish community, it would be a significant slap in their face.

We’re deeply saddened to hear of Manchán’s passing. A candidate for the party in 2016, he was more importantly a passionate and skilled advocate for Irish language and culture, and an appreciation for the beauty and importance of nature.

Today would have been 100 years since Anna Kelly was born in Derry. Grew up in Creeslough, Co Donegal, and spent her adult years in Dublin, where she succumbed to the charms of Noel Geoghegan. Always in our thoughts. Happy birthday, mammy. 🎂
