A frequent pushback is that "free" childcare or services are not actually free, often stated as if this is an insight that Europeans and socialists (the two merge in their minds) don't understand. Except of course they do. But "free at the point of delivery of consumption" is quite a mouthful.

An example of this has been friends on Facebook saying it is impossible or crazy to provide free childcare. Often they just don't know that free childcare is widely available in Europe and other developed economies and more than pays for itself in enabling people to return to work.
