Faculty are far from powerless. Most institutions operate under some form of shared governance that gives faculty almost total authority over the academic side-If they choose to use it. Ask a board member of an institution that has tried to change tenure-I was once one-about their power.

Understood. But it seems like they would have a keen interest in academic integrity and instructional independence even when it is just a lowly graduate student who is teaching.
