My father is amazed that Linux actually exists. But yeah, most people are not sure why it exists or why I would use it lol.

Reminds me of that old Star Trek episode, The Ultimate Computer. An "AI" is put in charge of the Enterprise temporarily. Kirk makes this exact point. Needless to say it didn't work out.
