Hey, Friends. Just a quickie note to let you know that the blog will be on pause until I get some adulting under control. I'm working a bit now which means I also need to be about the business of getting residency papers in Uruguay. This requires, among other things, a trip to Interpol to complete my background check. I find this endlessly amusing that I have to get with Interpol. I am an International Woman of Mystery...but hopefully Interpol won't find out. In those moments when I'm not teaching or adulting, I'm dedicating myself to a different creative project and making progress.

So if you've been following this saga, you know that I've been a housing whore since arriving in Montevideo 2 months ago. First I spent a few days in a hotel before moving to airbnb number one for 3 weeks and then airbnb number two for a month. That whole time I was searching, searching for a long-term apartment to rent. Through divine intervention, I came upon a beautiful apartment in the Old City that spoke to my bohemian soul. That's the front of my building and when I walked in, I knew this was the place.

So I've been shopping and even that is a learning experience. See, when you're in a new country and trying to hold on to your duckets like Ebenezer Scrooge at the Christmas Bazaar, you need to find where the sales are. Dana turned me on to the Barrio Judios where the outlet stores are clustered. I needed everything for the gorgeous apartment I'd found in the artsy-fartsy building in Ciudad Vieja. Sheets, towels, dishes, cutlery, pillows, a shower curtain, pots and pans---all those little things you haven't thought of since outfitting your very first apartment 30 years ago.

I've been so caught up in the house hunt that I haven't been giving much thought to the job situation. In fact, and can I be candid here, I was really annoyed as October 1st rolled around. That is the day I was scheduled to start class with my first Uruguayan student. Why annoyed? I can't say exactly. I wanted more unstructured days without alarms, more of the old carpe diem. I've been living high on the golden hog and showing up for work, even online, for an hour, was disturbing my delusion of deep pockets.

I have an affliction known as IBP in the most exclusive circles. For those of you not in the know, that's International Bougie Problems. What are the symptoms? Well, there are minor symptoms like getting your streaming services to work from abroad. Yes, yes get a VPN, but HBO is on to that shit. I may be internationally bougie, but I refuse to pay for a more powerful VPN that will get me full access to HBO. I'll suffer with Netflix and Prime and continue to boycott the Apple+ that I never had.

I'm bouncing between airbnbs and neighborhoods as the quest for housing in Montevideo continues---and I'm having a ball doing it.

The Universe has brought me this far on my journey. I have to trust and believe that my protection is strong and creative. Don't mess with this Diva!
