3) Oh right. It's 'just silly' to have thought about reforming the asset stripping of formerly public assets, & blatant corruption, costing us, the country, very dearly. Even back then.

2) I worked for the EA from it's inception. The number & immediate impacts of Sewerage Co pollution were always recorded, were already enormous, & are routinely reported publicly & to the Government.
No additional reporting was ever necessary to confirm their litany of environmental crimes.
April 12, 2025 at 5:03 PM
1) Oh right, so despite being a Government Minister, & in coalition, the lib-turncoats had no influence in Government?
Nah, they just chose not to do anything useful; as is their normal way of being.
Davey is just now jumping on a publicity bandwagon, generated by others, who actually care.
April 12, 2025 at 5:00 PM
Good to have a report, though I wonder if one is really needed to show that not having to pay shareholders, & being able to access borrowing at the far cheaper rates available to a government over private industry isn't self-evident?
April 12, 2025 at 4:46 AM
No regulatory quota, & no qualifications needed (other than, in most cases, a long & brown nose). Its just a neverending gravy train for their chums.
The Lords is actually severely overcrowded (>800 Lords), with absolutely no possibility of entertaining 'our Lordships' all in one go (~400 seats).

Gary Stevenson (of Gary's Economics, highly recommend), an ex-trader does recount extensive use of cocaine in the financial sector. On top of the obvious champagne etc.
April 12, 2025 at 4:25 AM
So, our politicians are routinely whacked out on any number of drugs (though I'm guessing, mainly the more expensive) & you say the Civil Service are too.
As they all at least give an appearance of still being able to do their job, is the 'wickedness' of all these substances perhaps overstated?
April 12, 2025 at 4:22 AM
I think most of their time in office displayed a consistent and deep contempt for the people.

And yes, yet another grotesque decision from an (almost) billionaire.

Who would really think that a (nearly) billionaire would really have any regard for us 'common folk'?
April 12, 2025 at 4:17 AM
Agreed. How about just stopping slapping peerages on anyone, especially their own favourites?
Could easily be done, when & if necessary, by public vote.
Though 'The Establishment & vested interests' might not like the idea of an elected 2nd chamber...
April 12, 2025 at 4:13 AM
Did they publish his dealers phone number?
(Asking for a friend.)
April 12, 2025 at 4:10 AM
Don't forget David Cameron (reputedly a cannabis fan); gets a peerage.
Whilst the odd spliff may be wonderful, as with Gove, 'somewhat' inconsistent with their absolutist stance against us 'Plebs' enjoying a quick chuff.
April 12, 2025 at 4:08 AM
Not sure that sex pests & harassers are disproportionately content creators. As politicians are in the news a lot now:
Trump, sexual abuse & fraud convictions, re-elected! Johnson, repeatedly re-elected, despite obvious 'difficulties with the truth'. Serial other MPs convicted of various abuse.
April 12, 2025 at 4:03 AM
Indeed. I used to hope we 'live & learn'. Given the USA voting for a convicted sexual monster, fraudster, serial bankrupt, bigoted liar, I'm not so sure.
RON, Re-Open Nominations, (ability to vote against) would shake things up, but probably not give any MPs at all. So problematic, if entertaining.

If you can bare to zoom in, look like a cardigan to me.
May be he's trying a Corbyn look?

OFWAT was always toothless. They also send young (so cheaper/inexperienced) auditors to audit companies paying for experienced old hacks to pull the wool over their eyes.
Vast defunding (including when principled Mr Davey was in Government and a Government Minister!) means the EA is also less able.
April 12, 2025 at 12:35 AM
The latter.
OFWAT was always toothless. Since vast defunding over the last couple of decades (including when our principled Mr Davey was in Government, and a Government Minister!) the Environment Agency is considerable less 'toothy'.
That's from my experience working for the EA, & a Sewage Company.
April 12, 2025 at 12:10 AM
Lovely idea, BUT
'Dumping' is mostly from undersized sewage works / undersized 'combined' sewage pipes. (Combined means every time it rains, rainwater floods the sewage system.)
Unfortunately complete prevention is basically not possible, & running to £trillions, would bankrupt us. So not practical.
April 12, 2025 at 12:03 AM
& no, we don't need new regulators: we do need regulators with teeth; as well as politicians with principles (for the public good).

OFWAT never had any teeth.
The Environment Agency has been progressively defunded.

Both including when you were in Government & a Government Minister.

Odd that.
April 11, 2025 at 11:47 PM
If you were actually concerned about Sewage Company pollution it's really 'odd' why you did nothing about it while you were in Government & a Government Minister.

Could you just be chasing a publicity bandwagon that other, actually hard-working & principled people have campaigned for years against?
April 11, 2025 at 11:39 PM
So funny!
'Hope' in a party with:

- same HQ,
- largely the same office staff,
- largely the same Constituency parties, officers, volunteers etc, etc,
- largely the same MPs,

Just largely the same murderous thugs.

They are now murdering Brits as well as foreigners, so that's changed for sure.
April 11, 2025 at 10:19 PM
Sadly for me, I did: more whining.

So Labour changed?
What, from murder foreigners in the early 2000's, to murdering foreigners in the mid-2020's.

I don't notice any difference.
April 11, 2025 at 9:46 PM
Mish clearly has a rather selective memory.
I seem to recall the murder of up to 1 million Iraqis in an illegal war directly supported by the war crimal Blair & his obnoxious bunch of Labour lackies.
So Labour have been actively murdering innocent people for (at the very least) the last 20 years.
April 11, 2025 at 9:35 PM
It would be infinitely more effective to campaign to reduce the causes of the majority of cancer: smoking, inadequate exercise, & inappropriate diet. Just not as much fun publicity for your 'so generous' action I guess.
April 11, 2025 at 9:22 PM
Absolutely! Starve the oligarchs of their self-serving publicity machines.
April 11, 2025 at 9:16 PM
How odd the lib Dems didn't do anything about it when last in government, when Davey was actually a Government Minister & when 'proper coverage' was irrelevant.
