This was an opportunity to create a syncretic and collaborative environment - something I hope to further develop and sustain in future workshops.

i.e. only through collective effort can we begin to see the broader picture, with each researcher working on the Sasanian world bringing their unique perspective.We need many more opportunities in which it is possible to create forum to debate, discuss, confront, and learn from one another.

Rather than a centralised, dynastic Sasanian culture, regionalism is one of the results that constantly emerges. To untangle this complexity is possible if we bring together the different ‘pieces of the jigsaw’,

The Sasanians have often been overlooked, not only, I believe, because their material culture may not be among the most striking, but more so because even defining what is ‘Sasanian’ is a complex task. As in other similar experiences, a recurring theme emerged in this workshop.
