"Jackabre" Pokemon design that I made for @n0rtist.bsky.social's #FT500 Fakemon design challenge. Getting the entry in last minute.. but just in time for scary month with the headless horseman inspiration. thanks to Teamgeno for help with the kit and BB101 for help with the design! (face, hands)
A Pokemon-inspired design featuring a creature in a dark purple robe with a jack-o-lantern head wielding flames in its hands and across its chest. A row of six spirits float between its hands. Jackabre Lantern Pokemon Ghost Fire Jackabre is a malevolent Pokemon that eternally hunts anyone who threatens the spirits whom it protects. Jackabre uses its flames to guide the spirits of the dead. When at rest, it takes the appearance of a jack-o-lantern on a sheet. Lost spirits will then gather around and inside it for protection. Intrepid trainers may attempt a seance at one of these Jackabre... only to be met by a terrifying fate. Jackabre will toss burning pumpkin heads at its opponents, fighting alongside the spirits gathered around it. HP 135 ATK 50 DEF 80 SP.ATK 125 SP.DEF 84 SPEED 26 Ability: Magic Guard Item: Sitrus Berry Moves: Mind Blown, Astral Barrage, Wide Guard, Trick-or-Treat Ditto, but the Shiny form of the Pokemon. It features a dark red robe and white jack-o-lantern head.

There's a misconception that this fascination with 90s and 00s internet is solely due to "nostalgia" but I don’t believe that’s the case. It was because it represents the unfederated, messy, creative, strange internet that was OURS with forums, chat rooms, personal websites, self hosting, learning to own your own media. You could control your own experience. Find your own sense of self through things like blogging, chatting, self hosting video websites, posting unfiltered ugly photos. Things like learning to code, fiddling with things yourself instead of it being done for you. To put simply, as ugly as it sounds, these big tech corporations think we're stupid. They see you as "dumb" while they steal and sell your data. It’s all about the endless mindless scrolling now where users are nothing but numbers on a screen. They see that people will put up with anything for the simplicity of pre-built internet where all you can really control is changing an icon, header, and creating a post. After all, they see a people using a platform run by a nazi. Even though the users bitch and moan..they still stay. Users will stay for anything now. Early years of the internet was when people had guts to have ownership over OURSELVES. Creating our own pockets of the web, truly being able to curate our spaces to be our own, rather than a company. I genuinely believe the fascination with the 90s and 00s internet is more than just nostalgia. I believe it was because freedom on the internet is radical compared to the conformity of modern-day social media. Why did we allow companies to take away something that was originally built for freedom? Early internet wasn't perfect..but it was OURS. It was ANYONE'S. When will we gain back our ownership?
