A low key photograph. Two layers of security mesh create a Moire grid over a metro station. The concrete construction frames the mesh into a tight rectangle creating a claustrophobic atmosphere. The station seen through the mesh is out of focus. Monochrome, ghostly.

There are several transitions between light and dark, particularly due to a line of mature trees crossing the path. Is there a figure exiting through the far gate?

Liminal Alley. A Victorian alley in Manchester City Centre. Retrofitted post-Victorian technologies on the building walls draw our attention to temporal transitions. The gloomy shadow opens, temporarily into sunlit space before passing back into shade.
A long Victorian alley in a city centre. Modern bins, ventilation units and graffiti impose a sense of change. There is a promise that passing through the claustrophobic end of the alley will lead to a happier street. Contrast of gloomy shadow with patches where the sun breaks through.

Although the length is short, there is a strong sense of perspective dur to rectangular forms of pillars, floor tiles and ceiling moldings. The eye is lead to an empty niche in the facing wall. A white light falling ont he niche revaeals . . .nothing.
