Not an #indiedyer but an #indieyarn I JUST picked up today is Lillooet Sheep & Cheesery in Boxford, MA. They use every part of their sheep and make a wonderful fisherman’s worsted wool. This natural skein will make a cozy hat gift for the holidays.

Gather round for a couple knitting #horrorstories for Week 65 of #showmeyourknits

1-The time I opened the dryer to find TheKid’s #AnimalCrossing sweater felted beyond repair.
2- When I realized I left my Purlbreak Shawl hanging on the porch of a resort to dry after I left the country. 😭
A ribbed, wool pullover sweater in colorful sections designed to match one my child loved having their Animal Crossing avatar wear. The collar is a bright orange, yoke is deep green, white stripe, back to orange till just above the elbow on the sleeves, then a stripe of deep green, stripe of orange, a kind of wheat-yellow heather for main body and down rest of sleeves, back to orange for hemlines. Purlbreak shawl by Stephen West in purple for center section, added a mossy green stripe with purple, then section of heathered pumpkin orange with purple stripes, then section of bright cream and pale green with purple stripes for last section. All stripes are broken up at regular intervals by a vertical one stitch strip of purple that ties the design together.

OK, so that big push last week was not fruitful. #Knitting away all cocky while watching TV and held up my work to evaluate it when I noticed a #droppedstitch tucked just before the ribbing starts. Now that it’s fixed, I’ll try it on again tomorrow before binding off.

I’m making a big push to finish the body of this sweater today! Conditions are perfect: n’oreaster blowing outside, day off, cat firmly planted on my lap.

Each year I make teacher gifts during the holidays to show my appreciation for my kid’s teachers. These little cable trees are ones I made last year.

I’ve stalled out on this sweater project and grabbed a crochet hook to make a #decahedronstar for a friend’s baby that was born earlier this year. More time for #WIPs as the farm season swings to an end next month!

#showmeyourknits week 53 is #shawls and I’ve made many. Boneyard Shawl by Stephen West made with Cryptic Hollow Fibers fingering weight in Astral Sea (loved this yarn I got at the 1st Fiber Witch Festival) and Malabrigo Yarn Mechita in Paprika. Love the drape and feel of these yarns.
A shawl is draped over a wooden picket fence that has a red leaved vine crawling on it. The shawl is V shaped and striped with alternating colors of heathered, dark orange and deep purple. The way in which the shawl is draped highlights the point of the V, which is the widest part of the fabric and lays down the center of the image slightly towards the right. It evokes Halloween season in New England.

Happy anniversary #showmeyourknits! It has been a joy to share and search every weekend to see what everyone in this community has created. I love this part of #BlueSky.

For knitter’s choice, I present the Captain Salty and L’il Salt sweaters made for my boys. (Deets in alt text.)

The bright afternoon light takes a long shadow to the child’s left. This is the second L’il Salt sweater made for TheKid after they grew out of the toddler sized one. The merino blend used hung so well and wasn’t scratchy so he loved to wear it. The origin of the words comes from my husband’s childhood. He had a superhero character he made up named Captain Salty. To commemorate this, I included it in a sweater I made him. After our child was born, I made them this matching knit sweater with “L’il Salt” stitched into the back. This is the first article of clothing I made! At the time, I crocheted and did not know how to knit so, while fun and my husband loved it, it hung heavy off the shoulders and wasn’t too practical to wear. Especially given we were living in Austin, TX at the time. The back yoke area of a hand crocheted sweater is centered on the frame. The sweater is black and “Cap’t Salty” is emblazoned in red across the entire width of the sweater in a gothic typeface style similar to old English. The origin of the words comes from my husband’s childhood. He had a superhero character he made up named Captain Salty. To commemorate this, I included it in this sweater. After our child was born, I made them a matching knit sweater with “L’il Salt” stitched into the back.

Blue is the theme for #showmeyourknits and it’s made me realize I haven’t made much with just blue. Which surprises me. Here’s a close up of a scarf made in a broomstick lace pattern. A gift that I never got a proper photo of.
