Despite Edmonton Public obtaining an illegal exemption to their responsibilities to provide in person learning to disabled students in January for 3 out of 4 weeks, they still managed to lock 50 disabled kids in prison cells.

Looks like a justice agreed this ministerial order was discriminatory and granted the emergency injunction. It's almost as if you can't play fast and loose with the educational rights of disabled kids, just because they're disabled.

I get that outrage fatigue is very real and everything the UCP does seems horrific, but I don't think people understand what a big deal it is that the Education Minister signed away children's education rights and NO ONE NOTICED FOR TWO FUCKING WEEKS.

So how many kids is that? This year's Sept 30 count included over 5300 kids with severe/profound codes (41-47). This doesn't include PUF kids. The division has a max of 600 of them in the budget. /4

Up to date (with a couple awaiting confirmation) list of all active seclusion rooms in Edmonton Public School Division.
Out of these 63 schools, 34 of them have already used their seclusion rooms in Sept 2024 for a total combined 413 seclusions in the first 20 days of school.

I was researching something else tonight and came across this devastating reminder of how cruel the 2019 UCP cuts to PUF were. EPSB'S Budget cut 76% overnight allowing them to serve 42% less kids with crucial early intervention. /1
