'forever stuck as amateur' puts it SO well, i came here to say that just less elegant :)

i think an adherence to hard and fast rules of 'good design vs bad design' closes you off to so much of the actual emotional root of what you're actually *doing* when designing.

and to be perfectly clear: i am making this game because i enjoy immensely the act of making it. i am not certain it ever will be released. maybe a time will come when that might be on the table, but as long as i have my day job that i love last light gets a few hours a night

and of course someday ill have to polish up some of the art that bothers me or is just ok (tm) but making it kinda lame first just to stay flexible if things need to change

its kinda crazy how much easier it is to alter systems in a game that now has its legs under it -- velocity feels a lot faster now that the bedrock machinery is in place

after that its on to making the town & dungeon loop -- im forgoing 'full jrpg' in favor of 'do dungeon runs, get story' unless i somehow get more collaborators in the future

milestone 3 is 'overworld, narrative, and battle all work start to end of a small zone' -- not a vertical slice, just a thematic series of rooms and events, and thats what i started work on today!

doing maintenance on some old systems then its time for overworld attacks a la paper mario
