I've just finished "The Rose Field" by Philip Pullman, and I was very disappointed.
The first 90% is compelling but then the ending is crammed into the last dozen pages, and it feels horribly rushed. And actually it doesn't really end as many of the key plot areas throughout just get left hanging...
