We are building a fighting force of extraordinary magnitude. We forge our spirits in the tradition of our ancestors. You have our gratitude!
Television is more than capable of handling a focused first person perspective equal to the immersion of the player experience, and then flipping it on its head to totally recontextualize it. A perfect example of that is Lost S1 House of the Rising Sun / … in Translation (the Sun /Jin flip sides)

(3) It’s all what she lost and she’s about to lose.

I doubt they will repeat the porch again at the end of s3, so maybe they will come up with a new one. But as it stands, this was like placing Jules’s Good Shepherd speech in the middle of the film, rather than at the end as it’s intended climax

(2) Now look at the dance scene from 2x1. Presentation wise it’s almost 1:1, but its context is now fundamentally altered. Its placement in game is very specific, trigged by Ellie’s playing “Ecstasy” on Joel’s guitar, tying to hold on to her love for Dina, until her need for revenge wins out.

(1) And yet it was shocking that THE most important of the game was altered in both presentation and context. Think about the 1:1 presentation of the end of Season One once Joel enters the garage. They got the ambiguity and tension right the first time, and chose not to alter it in translation

It’s even more frustrating because the ep was working great up to “9 months later” , all the changes were very good, and Pedro and Bella crushed the scene. What a gift it would have been to get Pedro back (in this banked footage) after all the horror and loss of S3

Exactly

It’s not because of how it is, but where it is

Now if they had left a variant of the slc convo after Eugene’s death, and saved the porch for where it belongs, as the emotional climax of the game, that would have worked better. But it’s consistent for this season as they keep undermining their own narrative (primarily Abby’s motivation in e1 /2)

Again, no. Part of Ellie’s revenge quest is fueled by the guilt she feels for all the lost time when she pushed Joel away, and that she was robbed of the chance to make up for it .. Specific that time between salt lake and the dance. To combine the two made a forced emotional whiplash

Nope. Narrative structure matters, and what made the game a masterpiece is how it is told. The realignment fundamentally undermines the players perception of events, which is the core theme of the story they were telling. The cart does not go before the Shimmer

Such a baffling choice… it’s as if they don’t trust the audience or their attention span at all .. not mention the emotional whiplash that had to happen combining the porch and Salt Lake scenes.
