thank you. as a scientist, i have been trying to explaint to non-scientists what is happening. their response is often "i'm sorry," as if they are sorry for what may be happening to me. but i don't want sympathy for me, i would like to make them aware of the impact on our collective future.

what if the great economic success of the United States over the past 80 years was not due to unfettered capitalism but rather due to sustained investment in basic science research and workforce training (as laid out by Vannevar Bush in 1945 Science: The Endless Frontier)?
