2 is far more readable at a glance and at a distance on a television, and I think this is largely because the original designs were intended for a 4:3 smaller television size and a smaller resolution.

Beyond that, KH3 suffers in the UI department in ways that KH2 doesn't. 3 uses really thin typefaces, and small components that are difficult to read at a glance and especially at a 1-2 metre distance on a television. When you compare them on-screen to the remastered KH2 I think it's night and day.

—just doesn't work for me at all, it feels over-detailed and ugly in a way that stands out. Donald Duck and Goofy with hyper polished UE4 lighting just feels really odd and uncomfortable uncanny valley to look at. I kind of wish it was closer in style to the first two titles.

KH2 due to the original platform has a stylised art style that fits the franchise perfectly and works really well across the Disney worlds and the most Final Fantasy/KH original worlds. KH3 tries to take advantage of the extra processing power that they have 2 generations later and it honestly—

This was the first issue and covered everything I played from August 2021 to August 2022. Issue 2 covers everything from September 2022 to July 2025, but still in a small 8 page folded zine. I had originally wanted to do one every year but never got around to it -

I'm not that into fighting games, but I am REALLY appreciating the UI design for Marvel Tōkon Fighting Souls. Bringing in the bristol board drawing guides / pencils template in the character select screen is so good.

Game 13 was Universal Paperclips which I knew of but had never played, and listening to @plante.bsky.social’s podcast Post Games reminded me that I should check it out. It was really compelling, I could hardly stop looking at it which turned out to be a problem. Really thought provoking exercise.

Game 12 was Dragon’s Dogma II from Capcom. Mostly enjoyed, though I think it was too similar to the first game for me? I like these games a lot but there are some aspects of their friction that I find off-putting. Would love to play a game just like this but with an authored party of companions.
