Common thread was definitely: be bold. Very happy I was able to bring two trainees, who I think had an awesome experience. The touch screen posters were super fun 🤩 It was also great getting to know several members of my fellow 2025 Freeman Hrabowksi cohort! Excited and energized to get to work 👩🏾🔬

These supernumerary synapses are pruned in a proprioceptor-activity dependent manner.
A cool finding was that impaired proprioceptor activity fails to induce expression of proteins in the complement signaling cascade, which we hypothesized leads to persistent intersegmental synapses.

But also entire research areas are being de-prioritized or wiped out. I think our ability to advance knowledge of biological sex differences could definitely be at risk. Climate change related research, etc. All very much at risk.

I’m worried the longest lasting effect will be a loss of trainees. They could very reasonably become disillusioned with the process and decide to pursue something else. We are also at risk of losing a lot of international talent that has been crucial to scientific progress in the US.
