Initial findings show NY’ers were profiled based on language, ethnicity, attire + speech, fuelling racial injustice by the police.

These findings reinforce what our previous research has consistently shown to be a disregard for the safety of Black and Brown communities by the NYPD.

Top: Tommy’s racist temper tantrum
Bottom: Carnival

Face rec is deployed along racial logics. Don’t want to read another haphazard study of how accurate the tech is; AI-driven policing is spatially and selectively configured to impart racial violence and selectively revoked to protect accomplices

As the great Ruth Wilson Gilmore said last week:
“There are so many dimensions to the problems that we face; and that means we have nothing but opportunities for organising; every opportunity involves contradiction, and every contradiction is an invitation to organise”

“these advancements scale colonial efforts of times past to enclose and condemn communities to a life of performing free labor and generating value or capital”
