Until we meet again, I’ll leave the key under the mat.

I hope that much of these artifacts will be preserved in the archives, but certainly won’t hold my breath. It’s amazing that this attraction still holds up after 35 years. I forever cherish the memories of Muppet*Vision 3D and hope it has a glorious 3-hour finale.

I truly hope that Disney finds a way to preserve this piece of Muppet and Disney history in some form. I take some solace that the Muppets will be hijacking the Rockin’ Roller Coaster, although I do wonder what will happen to the animatronics, and characters like Nicky Napoleon.

Additionally, the show is unique in that it has a live costumed character, Sweetums, appearing in every showing, which is a treat no matter how many times one sees it.

These animatronics react to what’s happening on screen even when the audience’s focus is meant to be elsewhere, which adds to immersion and their illusion of life.

Jim’s signature love of puppetry tricks is ever prominent, especially the end scene with Kermit on the fire engine. Further, the show features several Muppet characters in animatronic form, including Statler, Waldorf, Swedish Chef, Bean Bunny, and Nicky Napoleon and his Emperor Penguin orchestra.

Jim was always on the cutting edge of what was possible- pushing the limits and innovating new, more efficient ways of doing things. This spirit is reflected in both the content of the film itself, behind the scenes, and in the immersive qualities of the attraction.

Not only was it the last project that the visionary Jim Henson worked on before his untimely death, it was the only attraction that emerged from his initial negotiations with Disney. The icon Frank Oz completed directing the project after Jim’s passing, requesting only a basket of socks as payment.

I strongly disagree with this decision. Muppet*Vision 3D is packed with so many details, laughs, and history that make it such a special attraction.
