@gbraad I feel like the 1990s Beastie Boy "come-back" song Sabotage is in that group too.

@gbraad I remember the first time I heard Firestarter - it was like nothing I had ever heard. I've had that experience 5 or 6 times In my life - usually it feels completely dissonant! Smells like Teen Spirit, Firestarter. and Loser from that era come to mind.

In his public statements at least, he stated that he was in favor of the separation of races, and that white people were the superior race. Apologists argue that he was holding positions that were inside the Overton window of the time, that he argued that saving the union was his primary goal […]

The first thing I learned: as a member of Congress in the 1840s, Lincoln actually drafted a bill for Congress (this was the Bloody Kansas era). The bill called for emancipation only with state consent and compensation for slaveholders for "loss of property", that Lincoln returned fleeing slaves […]

@maj Yes! I would like to see every election cycle decrease both mean and median ages of the houses of Congress from the start of the last session.

In 2025, at the start of the session, the average ages of members of Congress were:
House: Mean 57.9, median 57.5;
Senate: Mean 63.9, Median 64.7 […]

@mattblaze It's more likely to end up as a "faux Versailles".

@troed How old are they?

@mattblaze Rooseveltian social programs run amok. What's next... Unemployment payments? Free healthcare for poor people?

If I bid, I am incentivized to win at almost all costs. If I bid $0.99 and someone else bids $1.00, I end up losing $0.99 - in this scenario I am incentivized to bid $1.01 and lose money, just to win the auction. Of course the same is true for other bidders too.

People end up losing their […]

@evan This whole chain of events in Portland and Chicago seem designed to provoke protests and civil intervention in ICE actions, which can then be suppressed, to create riots - then "see? Violent left wing extremists".

Even allowing ICE agents to mask, wear basically street clothes, decline to […]
