The weakest parts of the show are the Alien and the strongest parts of the show have nothing to do with the Alien.

The most interesting scene was the ex-machina scene between Curly and Boy CEO exploring a sibling rivalry between two robots.

Alt: Literally me, watching this show

Overall: A more promising episode. It’s becoming clear that they had very little desire to make an Alien show. The Bladerunner show they are developing instead is interesting to me, at the obvious expense of any tension or interest in the subject matter of Alien.

Still, we get to see Timothy Oliphant extract a facehugger’s payload, the pre-chestburster, and implant it into a stolen lung harvested from Alex Lawther’s character, who has unfortunately been unconscious basically the entire episode. That’s neat.

The show finally picks up steam (after about three hours) as Timothy Oliphant continues to carry it. He and his team of child-robots start investigating the Xenomorph eggs, which again pose no threat to them.

We have the episode’s obligatory instance of a character watching Disney+, as we find out the Weyland Yutani cyborg has hacked one of the kids. I like the cyborg antagonist Morrow, it’s fun seeing him walk around in the now more vaguely bladerunnery future. He begins grooming one of the children.

We are treated to a psychological confrontation between a child-synth, Curly, and Boy CEO. Gets a little on the nose with the “you created superior life” subtext. Best the show has been, an ex-Machina vibe. Interesting stuff for the Bladerunner show they clearly would have preferred to make

The boys, safe at home, ponder the question posed by the cyborg: “when is a machine not a machine”. This makes me think of Ridley Scott’s last TV outing, Raised By Wolves, which pondered the question, “when is a door not a door”

Our team returns to Neverland Ranch. Timothy Oliphant continues to carry the show as the only competent character, he prevents Boy Genius CEO from getting facehugged. He apparently deduced the Xenomorph life cycle from watching that egg open earlier.

Fair play, finally somebody smart in this show

Next, we have a tense scene where four robots stand around a clutch of Xenomorph eggs and discuss what kinds of robots they are. The eggs are not interested until it is revealed that one of the robots is in fact a cyborg, at which point an egg half-heartedly opens.

E3 begins with a melee between a human, a synth, and the Xenomorph. Our intrepid heroes are armed only with a meat hook and a paper cutter.

After being dragged around like an unruly dog, the Xenomorph is decapitated (by the paper cutter). This is the least threatening the Xenomorph has ever been.
