My new book Who Do We Trust? Power, Solidarity, and Anti-Authoritarianism is now available from @plutopress.bsky.social!!

Solidarity is an antidote to brutality, indifference, & inequality brought by hierarchy. Stop trusting authority + start trusting each other.

I wrote an article ("Bootmakers & Virologists: #Anarchist Views on Expertise") on the difference b/w #expertise & #authority. It's better to distrust hierarchies like corporate #medicine, and to instead trust workers who value justice + freedom. Read it here:

I've been re-reading old interviews I recorded with long-term radicals, like the 89-year-old French sociologist Ronald Creagh: "I am today a person without any creed whatsoever. I only have hypotheses. And I would say anarchism is the philosophy of life that I dislike the least."

Later this year, @plutopress.bsky.social will publish my new book Who Do We Trust?: Power, Solidarity, & Antiauthoritarianism. So, this year I'll be posting about "radical trust"--critical distrust of hierarchy + authority figures, alongside expansive, horizontal social trust. Follow if interested.

Ancestry.com's public databases are overwhelmingly state-based records. And the first full, de facto censuses collected in countries throughout Africa, Asia, & Europe were collected years prior to state formation; others were collected in the very first years of a state, to establish their power.

An edited collection about anarchism & policing compiled after the #GeorgeFloydUprising was published earlier this year. My chapter focused on "anarchist possibilities" regarding trust & confidence in police; horizontalists distrust police + protest more. www.researchgate.net/publication/...

Here's my 2024 study assessing #CivilSociety theories using case studies related to #anarchism (incl. the Haymarket Affair, Spanish #Revolution, & Seattle's anti-WTO #protest). These theories need to better account for not just non-capitalism, but anti-capitalism.

I'm not new to Bluesky, but this is my first post. I'm active on Mastodon (@dmw@scholar.social), too, and plan to stay there. Here, I'll likely just post about what I'm reading and writing. My interests include political sociology, inequalities, social movements, anarchist studies, trust, and music.
